Killer Views from a Simple Wooden Box
A radical take on new construction and preservation
This morning, Building 877, the tallest non-historic building on Governor’s Island was imploded. The 30 acres will be used to create a new park and public spaces and will open up extraordinary views of the Statue of Liberty.
The 115 foot, 11-story brick building that was built in 1968, was imploded early this morning at 7:36am. This was the first structure to be demolished by implosion in New York City in more than a decade.
If you missed the action, check out @FDNY’s vine video of the implosion: https://vine.co/v/bLUYlh5xMat.

As a form of tribute, ‘Casa del Viento’ faces north to the Tepozteco to fill every interior space with a 180-degree view of a rock formation that changes personality as the sun journeys the sky. Parametric Design’s New Twist On Gothic Architecture!
Belgian artist Wim Delvoye’s “pieces, like “Suppo (scale model 1:2)” (2010), an upright, slender, spiraling Gothic tower, not only recreate but also further dramatize historical architectural forms with the precision afforded by 21st-century technology. Delvoye manages to produce thoroughly Baroque objects that challenge conventional notions of time.” Click here to read more!
